Here I present the TKDC website for the King David Collection, and guess what, I built it. Here above you see the interactive flash part of the website where the phone slides of the screen to change the front and backview, and above you can choose the different colors of this phone. This might sound odd but with using actionscripting this flash file is just 21kB. This mobile phone got some very special features like having dual sims and also perfume effect. Visit the website at TKDC.mobi to find more information aboout this phone, and also not forget to enjoy the design.
Also something else, there is a contest for this mobile phone. Send in your music and win royalty on each sold phone. The winners will not only find his/her song in every mobile phone but he/she will also receive royalty for every phone sold. Check out the rules and regulations on that site.

Redesign Chung Dha logo

I don't know if you have noticed but I replaced the logo / icon above. The cube with the logo on it. And now I am proudly to present the new logo using the well known Web2.o style by adding a certain shine to the normally flat design of the logo. Or the bevel effect made with photoshop, now it is a full vector logo which I can resize to any size and also print it out without loosing any detail.
Also announcing in a few weeks time www.chungdha.com will be replaced by a official website for companies and clients. However you can still visit this blog directly by going to blog.chungdha.com.
Graphic Sketchbook 1.4 / Available
From the 1.3 I did a revision which he wanted to ad a background to the logo. This were what I submitted with the both backgrounds he ask, to show which way he wanted to go. Bit frustrating was after I posted this and refresh the page, I found the contest holder asked for a refund while he was totally liking the submissions I made. Not really know what the contest holder is thinking though. But was not that much fun for me, cause I though I was winning. But at least I can show some new logo's, cause I haven't submitted designs to contests for a while.
Graphic Sketchbook 1.3 / Available
This is a further revision of the Graphic Sketchbook, which I though looks very clean and simple. And in stead of having the text under the GS or in the middle of the horizon, I placed then to be standing on the same level as the GS. Which really fitted this design well cause icon of the logo is actually letters then you should make then stand on the same grid, otherwise the name wouldn't look like it is standing correct but more hovering around.
Graphic Sketchbook 1.2 / Available
This was one of my submission to the Graphic Sketchbook contest. However the CH didn't like the doodle on the background, I find it very cool. Plus really nice gradient with a very warm feel to it. Actually to make the scratch typeface a tablet pc or just a tablet is great to scratch over a letter to get this result.
It would be a good logo for any design company or certain painting or artist community or company.
Photo / Orangerie Kassel
This is the Orangerie in Kassel a planitarium which use to be the building of a count. It's quite a beautiful place and also this is stated next to the Art Academy. It is actualy a great way to walk past by when you go to the Art Academy because you can take the path from the Friedrichplatze.
I still need to go into the building to see the planitarium though. Also stated in the building is a restaurant. However I haven't been here at night because I saw the website and really looks very special at night.

Next to the Orangerie building are beautifull flowers places. Which are very pretty.Really want to have more time their though really want to return there soon.
Review / Fanta Grape from Japan

No, I haven't been to Japan to get this bottle, but went to a local sushi bar in Den Haag at the central train station. You might have seen this one before cause I had spotted this bottle at the Interpack too. However it cost me way more than just buying a normal Fanta bottle though.
I really like the bottle design and much more than the one we have in the Netherlands. Also the playfulness of the shapes and graphic design is much better done. Also a special element is the see through hole in the label. When the bottle is empty you can read the special text on the inside of the label. However I can't read Japanese so really not sure what it all stands for.
For the taste of the Fanta grape compared to the Dutch or European version is very different. Really noticed also in the candy Asia of Japan got a kind of very industrial taste for the grape. So in short for people in Europe to drink it it taste very awful, and Asian might like the taste much better.
Hey if anyone know if there is any Japanese toko or store in the Netherland please send the info to me. And thanks for the tip in advance.
Photo / Internship Jackson Chang
Almost forgot, I had the first week of internship last week. And actually bit different then I had expected more loose and very well planned.
Might sound wierd that I am having an internship during the summer vacation but it was something I really want, so I learn things much faster and go further. Plus I would advice people actually to do this because you learn much more and see the real work situation then at school. During the internship you can find out if you really like to work as a designer or not.
However I actually wanted to have and internship at Turner Duckworth but they were full when I applied for an internship, so I had to search something much closer. Well found several companies all liked my portfolio and work but saw that 2 month are too short, but a place at Jackson Chang which is actually great place to have an internship because they aren't really too big but work for very known brands.
Was actually pretty rainy this week but had taken my camera with me few time and shot few pictures outside of the office. There office is just outside of the center of Den Haag and very easy to travel too because of allot of different public transport that could take you there. Here above you see the entrance of the office not really that spectacular, its not a giant office with hundreds of employees but inside looks like a real design company.

Really need to have a better camera cause it was really hard to catch cool pictures. Rather hard to get a cool looking picture though. On the porch next to the office there was a doll lying in the rain. Really had to photograph it because it really made a certain feel to it.
At the moment bit uncertain about the internship, it is good to learn actual work but at the moment I just started my own design company Chung Dha and it's bit a shame I have less time for my costumers because I am working actually for free for Jackson Chang while I could recieve money from big costumers I am getting at the moment. So I really have less time for more costumers but really need to plan everything well to get to work on my own costumers.
Linq Zonnebloem
Next to the packaging assignment we had to make a logo for a whole different things. Really wierd linked assignment this period for packaging actually. We had to redesign a logo for Linq Zonnebloem or Linq Sunflower, Linq is a website that connect children and young people to with each other that have certain handicap. The logo they had wasn't really good and had a restyling to get attentions of young people.
Here above you see the sketches I made to find the right feel for the logo. At the end I have choosen the for making the Q of Linq to be a sun flower because that is most strongest letter in the word when you speak it out.
However this design doesn't show in the sketches, but also kinda does. But from what I seen when I did made the logo with a lowercase q it does not worked the way I wanted so when I changed it to the uppercase it was much better. Also made it less too techy looking then the sketches and more playfull for the youth angling each letter.
Sportlife Burgopak Pop-up Eurocup

This is last project from school this year and best from this period. The project is to ad a surprise or a gift to existing products/ packaging. I couldn't help myself to finally use something special in the package design.
I designed it to have a collectible soccerplayercard inside the Sportlife chewing gum package. The card is also not a normal player card but a pop-up card. When you pull out the card the strip with the chewing gum automatically coming out the otherway. I have gotten a good grade for this and sure different from what others made.
Credits to: Burgopak for designing the work making the slide mechanism possible, visit their website for more info Burgopak.
Event / Kassel Art Academy
The main reason I went to Kassel to see the work of the Graphic Design student I have met at the Graphic Design Festival in Breda. And they a little Graphic Design Festival of their own at their Academy. Here above you see poster about Ott and Stein, this was next to the Coffeeshop which was specially placed because of the link they wanted to make with the Netherlands. You could buy Stroopwafels, Vla, cofee and everything was orange colored. Also was the best place at the whole Academy with best music even better then the parties that was given in the main hall.
What is great to see there are Chinese students making designs between Germany and China. Actually where I study in the Netherlands are not that much Chinese students that want to become designers. Might also be the Chinese mentality that want to be working at a high paid profession like a advocate or doctor or management, and much think designers are low paid while it is not true.
This is made by Wei who is a girl from China who went to Kassel to study. Also only one I could talk easily with because she knows Cantonese. The two poster are linked about food between Germany and China. Als left is says Essen for food and left is food written in Chinese. She also made a small book showing much more things.
This one I like the positioning of these pictures. Kind of a big collage , showing the feel of the brand.
Last picture you see the the backside of the academy actually. From the looks of the building it is really old but the environment and landscape it is really great place. I would really like to go there to school because it is place next to a very big park where is it quiet and nice to get some inspiration.
Review / Take off Black

I also bought this in Germany but actually I spotted on the label that this is produced in the Netherlands, however I never have seen this before. Probably sold at certain places or is tested in Germany not sure which.
The taste is actually Red Bull mixed with Cola, but actually it taste more like Red Bull then Cola. Would been better mix if it was the other way around. But seem this is probably why Red Bull is also starting a mix with Cola.
Seem to be trend to mix up beverages to get new taste. Probably need to try Red Bull with Fanta or 7up and see what that taste like.
Really like the design and probably it is really something for Germany that they don't illustrate the design but use a better typographic use of the text. However it work quite well for this design and also a less is more design. However not sure what kind of region they are aiming with this drink, it doesn't look really trendy or hip or aim for refreshment for sport. The color sheme seem to be bit taken from Mars with the black, white, red and gold.
Review / Africola

I bought this one in Germany but had seen it at the Art Academy I visited at Kassel. But this bottle doesn't do it justice to the other bottle design they sold at the academy. The other bottle was made from glass and had a direct print instead of a label which looks much better than a simple paper label. Maybe a plastic label or transparent label would had made the bottle look much better.
I like the logo and clean, less is more design. However the word Africola on the side are like space fillers which wasn't really needed. Would been much cleaner if they got rid of that.
The taste of the cola isn't special actually. It's more kind of Pepsi like taste then Coca Cola.
Photo / Kassel Koningsplatze
This is the Koningsplatze which is placed in the center of the busy shopping part of town. Also it is a kind of central station for the trams that rides around the city. You could actually go anywhere because all the trams crossed this place.
I actually had made an appointment to drink some coffee at the Marktplatze and said to meet at the Koningsplatze. I was bit to early so I made few pictures of the surroundings.
The coolest things was that all around this city square there were fountains placed which I could make cool pictures of. This one above I thought that would been the best but on the camera the front spray was more sharper. Should had made more to be sure of that it was sharp.
Really liked the difference in the sharpness and the view of the distance between the water.
The center is really nice and the whole week even on Sunday when the shops are closed there are still allot of people walking around sight seeing. There are also allot of big shopping centers around this place. Just really love this place cause it's just so beautiful and inspirational.
Review / German Cola's
Here are 3 cola's I bought in Germany, and when I looked at the beverages in Germany they probably got the most kinds compared to other countries in Europe. Also there is a new Red Bull in Germany the Red Bull cola but haven't saw it in store only advertisements of it.
For the review I will take it slowly cause I am not going to sip all of them in one day, will do that slower.
I already had drank Mezzo Mix in Germany at the home of Paavo Blofield who is a great photographer. If I can compare the taste, it is the better version of Coca Cola Light Zango. However I spotted this is a brand is from Coca Cola Company it self so not sure why they don't introduce this normally everywhere, cause in Germany it's very big already.
The bottle I kind of remember it is a very old bottle design. Not sure if it is still a Coca Cola bottle though or Fanta. But do love the logo and the design of the label.
I haven't had time to visit or find a supermarket but did saw cans at some stores but they were the same as the ones in the Netherlands so Kassel isn't a testground. So still no luck on finding the reclosable can of Coca Cola. I really want to get my hands on one though, if anyone in Germany actually know which place they do sell them please email the location to me.
Event / GDFB Kijk mijn Wijk
Almost forgot to post about the volunteer work I did at the Graphic Design Festival in Breda. I volunteered to work at the "Kijk mijn Wijk" workshop where we had to guide children from the primary school to design signs for the streets they like.

The kids had to paste their design on a plastic sign with a sticker on it wit their info plus the location they want the sign to be put. The most weirdest place I heard from a child was to put it inside a coffeeshop. Those kids shouldn't know about those kind of places. However some of the kids pasted their design on the wrong side though, and was funny but also had warned them to past of the other side of the sticker.
And ofcourse it got very messy with allot of cutouts and paper on the ground at the end of the day. What really wierd are that some kids are way to mature for their age. But not sure why but for kids allot of them lack inspiration, allot just copy of the design of their neighbor. But some are really good and can become good designers. To see what they all have made go to kijkmijnwijkbreda.nl to see the signs.
Now GDFB is finished the next one will be in 2010. Hope to see everyone there again and maybe next time to have my design there or do a speech about design.
Inspired / Muse Magazine
During the last period I was interviewed from a fellow student at the GLR in Rotterdam and today he showed me the design of his magazine plus the interview he gave me. This was made for the special theme modules. He is one of the talented guys that will sure make it with this cool magazine in his portfolio. Click the picture below for more detailed photographs of the magazine.
If you want to see more work of this student go to his Deviant Art page of Dave Adams.
Event / Kassel Germany
Came back today from Kassel in Germany. Really already started to miss is when I was on the train, I really want to stay much longer there. However I have planned an internship for this summer so works goes first. Will certainly plan to return to Kassel often, maybe internship there because I really love the environment, landscape, city and the people there. Here above you see the Hotel I slept. It's really high tech inside compared to what you see outside. And the view out of the window is superb, I had the room on the topfloor so could see all over the city.
This was taken from my window was on the last day though should had done that on the first day when it was sunny. Before I checked in I had to journey all the way from Rotterdam to Frankfurt. I traveled with Eurolines and would be my last time really bad service and the bus traveled in a wierd loop taking must more time than it was needed. Next time I'll take the plane wich is less of a hussle and way shorter than traveling 9 hours.
Here above is a nice picture I made from the station of Frankfurt Main. Really like that station because it looks old but everything is very clean inside and looks brandnew. Also really like the light effect in this picture.
Here is path I walked to the Kunstkochschule Kassel. Later found of there are better roads though plus trams that are fairly easy to buy tickets inside the tram self.
The coolest thing I found on the school were these paper sculptures, made with the wel known 3d program Rhinoceros. It's one of the cheaper 3d programs but nowaday used by many companies. This was found inside the product design section of the school.
I need to get Rhinoceros too haven't work with it for a while plus it is a great program for product design and most product design companies ask this as one of the needed program skills. And seem to be good to make paper designs with it. It probably work better than the most programs we get at GLR.
Still more to come need to rest for a while and get ready for my internship. Also was not on the first day that they have planned, because I was still traveling back from Kassel. And thanks to Helena, Lilly, Wei and everyone I have met in Kassel.
