Siraking / Available

This logo concept is using a facet styling. It actual give and impression of a kind of 3d low polygonal view and of course facets of crystals and diamonds. This logo can be use for actually allot of different kind of companies cause it does not exactly show a certain kind of product displayed within the logo, but does have some assets of diamond and jewelry cause of the facet styling and a crown, but if it said Siraking Transportation it still works. It is an overall design which could work for almost any company.

Firefighters Training

During a photoshoot of a project I came across a firefighters training which was a bit in the way by making allot of smoke and making a very misty enviroment to be photographing the surroundings. But I also took some picture of them, cause still could get some interesting photography out of it. The training is simple they just go inside a burning container and sits there for a long time to get to feel how it is in a burning smokey situation.

For this picture I was actually standing on the rooftop of a building. But you can see how much smoke came of it and also see they shut all the doors of the containers while the guys sits in there. You can see more picture on my Flickr photostream and also some panorama's from the photoshoot.

Saddle marketing / Trend

This is not that new but at the moment there allot of companies using this method to promote their company. However this is actually only possible for countries where there is a cycling culture like the Netherlands. I actually like this marketing because they actually give something usefull, then just spreading a flyers which end up in the trash or on the ground after a few feet's when it is received. These saddle protectors they put over your saddle , are great because they are useful because they keep your saddle dry during stormy and snowy weathers.

This is actually a small collection I had photographed one night in Rotterdam, but there are actually more versions but did not really had time to photograph them all and everywhere, I am sure in other cities they got different ones. Some of the saddles actually have two layers of different companies. Some of them are really funny and also make you really want to have one while others are not even that pretty to have. If you want to see them each up close view it here and you could also join and submit your own photograph of saddle promotions that you have came across.

But this marketing is very interesting because they give away usefull things, which you would not throw away that fast because you can use it. It's now still winter and I got an idea why not give away free icescrapers for cars the cost of each of them are not that expensive plus you be able to print a kind of advertisement on them. And I see when it is winter often people need to buy a new one, if they lost it during the other seasons or the one they got broke.

Also it is less trash because the companies are giving thing people can use and not see it as trash very fast. I think there are going to be more interesting marketing giving free product that cost very little but is very useful during certain periods of the year.

Sumo Paint / Review

Here is an interesting web application called Sumo paint it is an online app that is very much like Photoshop. It actually got some very interesting drawing tools like symmetry which make it east to draw a wheel rim design. It is actually an interesting app to draw sketches in but is not a real photo editor but more a sketch and drawing program.

It is totally free and you don't have to install anything to use it just register and log in. Also you can publish your artwork in their website. If you are interested in using this app to go sumopaint.com for more information and to open the app directly click here.

However this is where the future is going all the software we want will be on the internet and we don't have to install anything. Just bookmark them or even make special icons on the desktop to acces those sites easier and directly.

Greenobile

Green plus automobile makes Greenobile, a company solely for reviewing Eco friendly vehicles. Originally the company was going to be called EVG, Electric Vehicle Guide, which was not a very special name, because their might be more website using that term making it harder for people finding the site while typing it in a search machine. A car, a check mark, a leaf and represents good Eco friendly vehicles, Greenobile. The font is an adaptation of the Eurasia condensed with a sheer angle and a horizontal scale.

Happy Chinese New Year!

Chinese Cow sign / Clothing

Now available the Chinese ox sign clothing line, with the sign also looking like an actual ox. So even people who don't know Chinese would know what it stand for. A special design for 2009 cause this year it is the Chinese horoscope for ox, also available are the shirts with ox year. Now available my shirtshop.

¿Crab Cat - Cat Crab? / Available

Crab Cat or Cat Crab either way you can see a cat or a crab when turned 180 degree, you can say this is an ambigram but instead of using word I designed an ambigram illustration. This is just a fun logo but who knows you might have an animal store where you mainly sell cats and crab, or you might process crab for cat foods. It a bit of a odd combination having a mix of crabs and cats, but this is just an experiment trying to merge 2 different things into one icon or logo.
This design might be bit too extreme but who knows someone might be attracted to this logo. If you are you can contact me about this logo. However I might put this up on a tshirt cause it a very interesting illustration.

Infinite Aperture / Available

This logo is an infinite loop with the shapes of aperture forming it. This logo could be used for a photographer, a lens company or any other companies that got to do with camera's or photography. For those who don't know what an aperture is it is a part inside a camera lens that can regulate how much light goes through your lens, it can also regulate the depth perception of the picture. Often you see photo's taken by professionals have a blurred background and a sharp object this is done with regulating the aperture, but you can also regulate that everything is sharp even far away. So with infinite aperture can be meaning infinite depth and have everything sharp even from a large distance.The first one you saw is the same of this logo but then made for only web use in a web 2.0 style. This one is the normal flat version which could be used for prints, because without the gradients this is much easier to print in all ways and can be use for news paper ads.

OX 09 Chinese design

This is actually the first I am mixing up graphic design with Chinese calligraphy. Here above you actually see the Chinese word for ox and the ox is also the Chinese Zodiac for 2009. When I saw the Chinese letter for ox I saw that you could make an ox head out of it, however I know the original letter is derived from a head of an ox, but the originally the ox sign is from the front view of the head and not the same as how I made it. However it's very important not to change it too much cause it could turn into some other word, but I think or hope it I did not did too much though.
Also made this OX09 with bit mix of English and Chinese. However I did not use the Chinese word for zero because it's way to complicated. Also I do like the sound of saying it in English though O X O NINE.
Next Monday 26-01-2009 will be the Chinese New Year, so Happy New year to everyone and 祝你新年快樂！

Water Women / Available

Water Women a logo for a female audience aimed water based products, like beverages, health and cosmetics. The image or icon of the logo is a water goddess that is coming out of the water, but also if you look carefully you she looks also like a stream of water. It's a very elegant and classy logo, there is also something special about this logo, you can actually use it in various colors and it still looks perfect. You can use navi blue, purple, orange, turquoise and even pink. With able to use it in various colors you can use the colors to identify different product ranges.

Frogami / Available

Frogami the name derived from frog and origami and represented by a jumping from origami. This logo could be used for almost anything from a paper supplier, origami community or anything else you could think of. A frog is a special meaning cause of the fairy tale of kissing a frog to become a prince, however it fits well with origami because you have a piece of paper and can change it into anything special just folding it.

Marriage Special Coca Cola / Review

This is actual not a standard Coca Cola can you would find in a store for valentines day, this is a special made for marriages and me too did not know this exist before. For sure its give a special extra feeling having to give away cans to people that are special and limited.

For sure this is a great way to get some attention for Coca Cola self keeping in mind that people would have a great memory of that one special day and not Coca Cola is a part of it too. For sure will give people a better and more special feel when buying Coca Cola. However I am not so sure it is a limited cause I think the design is standard for marriages cause they were not special made for just one marriage. But I do think is it only limited to be used on a marriage and not on other occasions.

This could be actually a pretty interesting idea for certain event or something especially like a marriage, because I as a designer know few companies where you can print your own special designs, but it's mostly meant for companies to make them as promotional items. But would be interesting to actually design a packaging for someones marriage, so they would give to their families and friends as a kind of memory of that special day. You don't see your own face printed on a packaging everyday unless you are famous and it should be somethings to give people a kind of taste of the stardom on a special day.

Actually I can do cans packaging I have programs for it and to render realistic picture. And I even know companies where I can print them. So anyone interested could email me if they even wanted something this special, a very own packaging which you could keep a few for the memory and drink and give a way allot.

Wrigley's Eclipse / Review

At the moment tin can packaging is making a huge comeback and also allot of new interesting packaging designs are coming with this trend. Enought about the trend now about this packaging, this tin can have a quite intersting design it have a great lid design that make is easy to open and close. It's for sure one of the better mints packaging out there. Allot of them still uses simple plain paper wrapping which isn't a great packaging, cause its not greatly sealed and also falls appart easily. While this is a great sturdy packaging and also looks well, and cause its made of metal it can be recycled easily.

The mints are kind like Fishermen's Friend and actually have the same size, shapes and also taste like. However I like this mint because the strength of the mint is good and very strong like I want. The most strong mint in the Netherlands are either the Fishermen's friend or Smint. Smint got only tiny mints in a plastic dispenser packaging, while Fishermen's Friend uses a paper sack like packaging with a special treated inside of a plastic aluminum material.

But Eclipse mints are not for sale in the Netherlands though it's a special delivery all the way from Hong Kong. The amount of Wrigley products have drops actually in the Netherlands while I really like their gums which I specially buy in Germany, their gums are much better than Sportlife and also have a longer lasting taste. When I was in Germany I could be chewing just one piece of gum the whole day and found it still have flavour in the gum. However I hope in the future they would bring more of their product like this mint to the Netherlands, cause actually there are not that much companies into the mints today but more into the chewing gums. The mints make up just a small part in the candy department.

Mais & Fruit / Review

This is a new product by Bonduelle which there have been actually no commercial made for, but I just noticed it between the canned fruits and veggies. This product have been introduced in juli 2008 and is specially aimed for the active woman. The Bonduelle Mais & Fruit is sold in a two pack of two cans of 130ml in the taste of Sweetcorn and pineable or mango and papaya.

The packaging they used for the small cans are called Peelseam and which consist of a special peel off lid. This is different then other conventional peel lids which can be find on many dairy products. This have a much better and airtight seal making sure the product stays fresh until its opened. The cans are fully recyclable and they are actually fully printed. The can is printed with a white base and with quite high graphics on it. The inside of the can seem to be able to print something as well, because the can on the inside is white and not in a metal color with a varnish layer.

Around the two cans is a cardboard packaging holding the two cans. A extra is between the cans they also supplied a folded spoon same like one I already have seen on the Chinese jelly packagings. However I wish they provided two spoons cause of two cans, you would not eat both the same time or eat alone.

The taste is not that bad, also I just really love canned sweetcorn from Bonduelle they are trully the best. The taste of the pineapple is very faint but mostly it's because there is more corn then pineapple. Also not sure why but the color of the pineapple lood bit odd, not really yellow and normal like on the packaging. Actually the corn is more bright yellow then the pineapple bits, on the packaging the corn actually looks more orange then yellow. One things is the cans are just too small and too little, it way less then any snack and does not fill your tummy at all. It more like aimed for small children.

Conclusion
The taste is not bad but the level of pineapple could be more because not its too faint to taste it, because the sweetcorn is just much stronger. The proportion should be more too, cause I rather but the canned sweetcorn mini cans which have a more proper amount which is just enough, cause the normal sweetcorn cans contain just too much. Also the mini sweetcorn cost less then the Mais and Fruit with a better proportion, however the can is not as pretty but still is fairly easy to carry arround with an own spoon to eat anywhere as a snack or lunch.

This week was a marathon held in Maassluis, if I knew it was held I would have like to join it though. But was more by chance I could be there to take some interesting pictures of this event.

the Pepper Arts / Available

This logo is a P build up from different shapes, sizes and colored peppers like and mosaic. This logo could be use for an artist or an mosaic are group. Also could be uses for company that plants or grows peppers.

Banana packaging / Inspired

This is a short clip of someone explaining the design god made with a banana. However I am not religious but the guy is actually explaining the essence of a good packaging design. And actually some of the things he explains we can really already use for packaging design. Watch the vid and enjoy and I will explain further under the vid.

1. Ergonomic design
We can actually easily design a packaging that have the shapes for holding and improve ergonomic for easier handling. We can already design better packaging that fits your hand better and also they are aimed on sizes for certain target market age so they won't have them too small or too large. Also in shape or material to make it more grippy and non slippery so you can hold it with the best grip.

2.Expiration indications
This is actually a quite recent developement. We can actually make packaging that would change color when the expiration date have arrived or by chemical reaction that happens when a product have gone bad it will activate the color change. In the future we will see allot of packaging using it to help people to notice something gone bad faster then that they would notice while consuming the product or after and just read the small expiration date.

3. Easy to open
This is something allot of designers miss the point that the packaging should be easy to open and also show something recognizable to open with. A tab is actually most simplest thing to show pull this to open. A good packaging should be easy to open without having to use a manual first to learn it, it should be natural easy fast like you have opened same packaging before when it is the first time.

4.Sustainable packaging
We got biodegradable packaging and also recycling to help society for a greener world. And actually the future biodegradable is going to a big thing because you have two things, those made from paper can be recycled or be biodegradable. It means if you throw it in the trash bin it would be recycled, if you litter if should not matter that much because it goes away in the manner of the nature.

5. Easy handling
Getting to open the box should be important but how to get the product out of the packaging is important too. The packaging should also provide help to use the product and not that you would need an extra tool to get the product out. Like a cardboard milk packaging which have been designed so when you open it the opening would help out making pouring milk easier. A bad packaging example are allot of toys packaging allot of the use tie wraps to hold the toys in place, so when you manage to open the packaging you always need a tool to finally cut the tie wraps to get the toys out. So a good packaging should help you to get the products out easily and not the other way around.

These point are pretty important to design a good packaging, and they have nothing to do with God but with the packaging designers. So keep this simple list in mind when you design a packaging.

Arrowpen / Available

This logo can be used for a tablet manufacturer, tablet review site or a community of designers who uses tablets. It is all about using a tablet pen to navigate or to control your laptop or pc with. The design represents a tablet pen holded in a writing position and casting a shadow which is an arrow which is the same design of the mouse arrow, because the pen is the mouse arrow. Also especially for the people who have a tablet screen like Cintiq or like me a tablet pc they will see an arrow on the screen under the pen almost the same like this.

Hearts Hug / Available

Hearts hug a logo that can be used for a love and dating site, a wedding service or anything matching two people to fall in love. The logo represents two persons hugging each other and forming together a heart, also its a kind of yin yang , two parts that can't be one with out the other. It's a great logo and can easily stand alone with out showing the name.

Full moon / Photgraphy

Looks like it was taken from out of space but tonight it was full moon and it was super big!!! Could see allot of details of the moon. Too bad could not get a brighter sky with good detailed moon. Also notice the moon really move fast with in a few minutes it in an other position. Also it was super bright it shines so bright I saw the shape shining through the curtains, there was really allot of light that reflected back from the moon. ALso you need a fast shutterspeed then you normally expect to use because it moves fast from very far and if your shutter is low the moon would be blurry and won't be detailed. I had my shutter speed on 1/200 which gave me a sharp moon, I tried 1/100 but all those picture have a blurry moon. Also I used my liveview to get the perfect sharpness and use a 2 second countdown shot to make sure my cam would not be moving , cause if you press the button you cam moves and can make it your picture to have a motion blur.

Aquafresh chewing gum / Review

Probably the most forgotten chewing gum ever existed, this chewing gum from a well know tooth care brand have been around for several years but you don't see it very much. Actually this is not a bad chewing gum it works well for your teeths and also taste good, the packaging is also very special with an easy way to open and close and shake out the chewing gum. The big thing this chewing gum is not getting into the limelight like the others is that it is places in the wrong places in the supermarkets and stores. If you all agree this chewing gum is a candy product which you use like other chewing gum to control over a fresh minty breath and just to get chewing on something.

The major problem is that they are selling it not between the other chewing gums but the product is placed between the other Aquafresh products. Unless you weekly need to buy a new brush or toothpaste then you might buy it, but really nobody buys those things that often only when they run out of them. If they want allot of people to see and buy it they should place it between the candies where tons of people walk by and especially go there to buy packs of chewing gums. Also its not really a place you expect to go get chewing gums between the stuff that is good for your teeths.

The packaging is truly a superb design I really love the way it opens and closes. I might make the template of it and publish it here, because there are so many uses for that kind of opening and it just so sad to see such a great design on a product which is not sold because of the placement in the stores. I am sure this design could be altered for other packaging where you pour things out. With just a few alterations to it, it could pour out cornflakes or sprinkles.

YamYam To Go / Review

This look like a Chinese order you see allot in American movies or series, but there packagings are not often used by Chinese Restaurants all over the world. It's really something invented in America. However this frozen Nasi with Foe Yong Hai is a dutch product also this meal might not sound formilair to people from other countries. Only thing that is bad about the packaging it that they used glue for these sides while they could use a certain hook system so the packaging would had only used a little bit of glue for the label.

This meal need about 10 to 12 minutes to prepare in the microwave. Then 2 minutes of it to heat it self with the package closed. And then I opened it and it was pretty much a mess and only half of the package was filled. Was pretty much a big rip off cause you expect the packaging to be full or more then 3 /4 but it was 1/2 filled. Also it looks nothing like what they show on the packaging, it was a total mess with too much sauce and way too little rice and foe yong hai (was about 3 very small pieces of eggs in it) . What was in the package was way less then 450grams. It was more 200 grams and it was pretty easy to compare with a pizza which is already much bigger and had much more. Could had better spend the money on buying a frozen pizza which have more in it and also more veggies.

Really the worst microwave meal I ever had, even my moms frozen nasi came out better from the microwave than this one. This product ain't going to be a hit if they don't do something about the quality of the product inside, even how good the looks of the packaging is. I rather also have a packaging showing how the product really looks like when they are served and not a stock photo of that dish.

Colorful horizon / Photography

When I woke up this mornig there was a perticular colorful horizon, the sky was made up of a gradient of multiple colors going from red to orange to blue. If you want to see this picture bigger click this link. It's pretty interesting because not every mornig you get to see such a colorful sky.

Blue Tit / Photography

This small colorfull bird is actually called a blue tit, a very small bird which appears during the winter it comes to house with nuts or other special food hanging to provide food for the traveling birds. I was pretty lucky to get this shot it only stayed a few seconds on that brand and it moved pretty quick. It quite a pretty bird but very hard to photograph, but lucky I had my camera already mounted on the tripod with my telezoom lense to get this shot otherwise it flew away and could not show this pretty bird.

Happy New Year 2009!

Happy New Year to you all, we are now in the year 2009 and leave everything behind also become a year older. In 2009 I will become 24 years because this year will also be the year of the OX which happens each 12 years. 2009 is going to be an exciting year for me and will be doing allot with design and will take everything another step further. Even though I am a graphic designer mix with industrial design, I want to look into the world of art and if I could also can produce work of arts which in year in have increase value then, designing something that can go in the trash and replaced easily. Also I will be taking a big challenge this year but I believe I can handle them and will see how good my skill are.

Todays best shot is not a 100% fireworks picture but actually a rather very interesting artistic photo I took while everyone was playing with the fireworks.

It was a moment I was wow this will be a great show not focussing on the people but focussing on what the light effect was doing shining onto the railing. The light is caused by a very bright flash firework.

And the best shot of the fireworks is this a very simple clean palm tree arrow.

However it does not look anything like a palmtree while you clearly do see it is that kind of arrow, but this have a more elegantly feel to it then just a palmtree. And also it have a kind of a human like figure shaped by the fireworks.

Also this was the first time I took pictures of fireworks with my new Canon 1000D and it was not that hard. The only problem was swithing around between the lenses. It was a odd wave of far away fireworks and close ups. But learn to make great fireworks photography and learn how to setup my camera and change them very fast for another shot very fast and fast lens switches. For sure learned allot during this.

Another this Chung Dha.com now have more than 400 post and more than 98.000 views. However I would had a finished of with having more than 100.000 but I am sure we will cross that figure anytime soon. Just a matter of what I post on it and time.
