Mostly taking photo's allot of wide angle lenses don't focus that well of them focus be all over the place, especially some wide angle the focus goes even beyond infinity which makes them even more prone to be off focus. The problem lies in the way the camera focus as it just looks for sharp edges and focus but most of the time its not really the edge you wanted to focus on. So by using the IR of your camera to focus it would do a much better job and focus much faster and better.
