Probably first really crazy busy day this year walking around all over hk from on location to another. Have not slept at all done all nighter to get a nice intro indent done, rebuilding a logo that was made from several layers of jpg illustration imported to illustrator and masked out so it is transparent and none outlined text. So basically only thing i got that was useful was the jpg of the logo and basically had to trace and rebuild the entire logo myself.

Meet up wit Spencer at time square to give him the works. Walked to Wan Chai for food from Causeway.

Took the ferry over from Wan Chai to Tst to try to meet up with super busy mike and did a meeting in mtr now got to go back into busy editing. And thinking about some awesome crazy stuff.

Review compact scissor from Japan

I bought this scissor from Log On in Hong Kong and its a great thing to have around and does not use much space and can keep it in my bag with no problem. Only thing it does come in handy allot of times but if you need it to cut some heavy duty cardboard it does not do the job cause it only would cut simple stuff.

Minima CD packaging by Chung Dha

This is a new packaging design by Chung Dha which uses less materials than any other packaging, its uses the most minimum resources to be put together and does not even need any glue. For more information watch the video below.

The PDF template of the packaging can be found here below and can be downloaded for free from Scribd. Its a editable PDF that can be opened with Adobe Illustrator CS2 or above to edit it.
Minima CD
Please include the logo if the packaging is for a commercial use. The template is best to be printed on a 200gram paper or above. Cut the black lines and fold the red ones.

Why is this packaging so great?
The big thing about this packaging is that in production it should save allot of money cause it does not need any glue to be put together so no glue machine would be needed in the progress while manufacturing this packaging. However compared to the standard cardboard sleeves this packaging also uses less material and there by is lighter in transport. So saving money in the weight cost of transporting the packaging. Also the packaging can be printed on an A4 sheet so everybody at home could product it. Especially for me doing cinema and design, I often need to give a DVD or CD to my clients with all the designs or even burn a video on a DVD, this would be a great solution to make a quick fast and a good looking CD or DVD cover.

For who did you designed this?
The ideal client to use this packaging are the magazines which have a DVD or any Disc provided with the magazine. The overall weight of the magazine would be lightened a bit however putting it all together with the several thousand magazines it would be allot also in the decrease of material cost they would have been able to save allot of money using this packaging. However I never sold it to anybody, cause the design was so simple that it would had been copied if I ever tried to sell it. That why I am releasing it for free to everybody, with just one condition for them to put my logo on the packaging.

How did you manage to find such a simple solution?
The original idea was to find a super simplified CD packaging that would not use any glue, however during the development we found that the four corners of a packaging are quite useless, in fact are too much materials that is not needed. However developing an octagon shaped sleeve would been a solution but it would not have hold the CD in the sleeve that well, plus having more angles that is needed to be glued. So further development we found a possibility of folding the packaging in more of a octagon shape which also lead to the current shape which holds the disc in place while making a fold point which does not needed any glue. However the development of the open en closing lock is a basic one and has not really changes over the years, cause trying out different locking this was the one that lasted for the longest time without tear and wear.

Just simply laminating a piece of paper you will be able to make a simple and small whiteboard for a very low price. It can be made in any shape you want and maximum size be a3 however you could put several ones together to build a bigger one.

Found a setup of lights with soft box for less than 500hkd but I can do max 525watt of light output with 6400k or do increasement of 125watt with 5600k. Going to test the light tonight hope I don't get blind or sunburn from it. Also it is much easier to carry around than flolights, cause it is so small when it is not used. Only thing need to carry the lightbulbs in a case cause they are fragile. Hopefully 500watt is enough, cause there is also a setup I found that can do 2100watt output of lights but that is overkill unless used for daylight shoot or night for day. However I need a power socket though cause it just have a standard hk plug, but mainly extension cord always helps to solve that, unless you are located in some deserted area then you need either a big power pack or power generator. Hopefully soon start doing my show again and will show what I bought for this setup.

Have you ever though about how certain film or ads could film a restaurant or any well known indoor locations during the day, without them paying a crazy amount of money to rent it during the day so the restaurant have no money loss. Mainly they don't rent it that often during the day unless you know that the restaurant have days when it is really quiet. But mainly they rent it at night which the restaurant would have less loss plus get less problem of people crowding against the windows to see what is happening or to see the celebs. Mainly they will rent few high watts hmi flood lights to shine agains one massive white sheet which acts as one giant softbox to replicate sunlight. But mainly it still is a very expensive task but less than renting during the day unless you are the best friend of the owner and could get it for free.

The progress of facial recognition within anytime soon would have systems inside shops to recognize you as the buyer and also it recognize what products you pick up and just have to pay at the register without them having to scan at the register or even just walk out of the shop and you will pay through the system. But also this technique would comply with stealing, it will be not possible to walk out of a store without paying mostly have a security making sure you would show your face. However recognition would also not just come with face detections but also with any personal devices as gps, wifi or any connection. Would make the shops flow so much quicker, no lines at the counter but that be mostly far in the future where you simply automatically would pay. By then we would look back and say why did you had to stand in lines to pay.

Installing Magic Lantern Unified

A simple video showing how install Magic Lantern onto a Canon EOS 550D and using Trandscend 32gb Class 10 card, which is a pretty good combinations for this. Because first I did no know if they would work cause certain brand or SDHC card does not really work for the Magic Lantern, but however its perfectly fine with the Trandscend.

Just make sure before installing:

- Have a full battery.
- Lens on the camera.
- Camera set on M or AV

And it should all be fine and very simple to install onto your camera without too many hassle and too much steps.

New sdhc 32gb card

Got my new SDHC 32gb class 10 card from Trandscend , so now finally got a class 10 card and gotten directly magic lantern on it. And it works perfectly well with the firmware hack.

Actually gotten a major deal with buying this card, cause it normally cost about 600hkd but we bought it at the official Trandscend store in Sham Shui Po for just 371hkd which is a major deal. Now have a great 32gb card that can record plus minus about 96 minutes with my Canon EOS 550D. But with the magic lantern I can compress the video so it could film more than that.

Lambency flash diffuser

Bought this diffuser cup at Aplui in Sham Shui Po yesterday. Will do a more detailed review about it later but for now have to say being in Hong Kong it's is pretty cheap to buy one of these. This one cost 45hkd which is ruffly about 4 euro, plus I got an extra orange or tungsten diffuser with it which most do not have. And in Europe I would expect to be paying about 10 times more for it. Might want to setup something so people could get stuff like these cheaper in Europe cause there got to be a way. Have to say it fits perfectly on my sigma flash the 530 but I have not tested it yet but I am pretty sure it will provide a nice soft flash and also help me have better colors when shooting under tungsten lighted environments. Will start doing video review again soon and hope and try to setup a webshop where I could send product cheap around the world!

I didn't do the research but I am sure it is out there but the professional ones I know are so crazy expensive. But I think they can be much cheaper cause it is not a camera but is has allot of the same parts an circuits though. Mostly it is just missing a sensor to take photos but it need a hdmi in or av in and just mainly convert the video signal into a file that would be saved onto a cf or sd card. This would be cool to just able to record stuff from games or like other stuff or especially for the new hdslr filming.

This packaging is by burgopak if you don't know them as a packaging designer shame on you the designed an awesome packaging with a slide system called the burgopak . However this packaging is awesome but it is packing allot of air but what the heck the packaging looks cool and that for me more important than being cheap for the client otherwise they should just have a boring packaging if the wanted it cheap. This packaging is cool and catch my attention easily if I saw it in the shops. Also smart the set is left and right handed versions so both hands are shown. Have to say still kinda hard to sketch even with the zoom in so I can go into the details better, but still feel unnatural but am improving and start getting the hand of it. Only too bad is I can't put two pictures into a layers but I can draw on several layers. Cause I would like to import my logo and put it as a watermark over some sketches or pictures which would be great!

Fuck the diet for today, just finish one of the most stressful week ever and it's time for me to enjoy something. Choose the large mainly to get the free powder which gives extra taste to the fries. Have to say can't really pinpoint what the taste of the powder is like cause it's there but a bit faint to compare to something else but have to say it taste less boring than the normal fries, for the McRib is pretty much the same as the one in Europe and still too much sauce. But not sure why but the wrapping was missing on my burger normally it comes with an extra wrap cause of the sauce, so you don't dirty yourself and drip all over yourself while eating. Could be they are running out of stock cause the plain powder mixing bag was replaced by a standard takeaway bag though. Have to say the McRib is kinda boring and small I would not go for another one the next time.

Went to Macau last week and mainly went to try and visit as much places outside the casino which means allot of walking around. But have to say outside from all the casino is pretty boring however it is legal to take picture outside of casinos and not inside most of them. Also cool thing was they are setting up the track and fences for the Macau grand prix which I would like to film or take pictures for. However now explored how to walk Macau and mainly found a way not to take busses or cabs to walk to the ferry station.

Here is a new wallpaper I did for my iPad plus also my laptop. Mostly wanted to get back into my flow with this cause I remember I always had my own wallpaper design of my logo but somehow had lost that in the recent years so now made a new one. Cause before I had the L logo designed by myself which stand for Lazy_Tjai which was my first nickname which I though of and worked on tons of gp500 and motogp game textures under that name.

But now new one reflect back to my real name which is Chung Dha and basically all that I do is for me and to improve myself even inside a team, I need to still think of the goal to achieve by myself and can not rely on others as others may not have the same knowledge or level. Just I have to do my part the best that I can , don't care about the rest cause they be just dragging me down unless they up the game each time I do.

At the moment working with certain people with a fucked up workflow cause literally am getting the stuff that should be done weeks ago handed to me at the last moment and also don't have a real overview of the project and can not take over the control which I normally would do. Mainly the whole project is missing a giant important briefing with all the dates and deadlines and more, so everybody working on it know what needs to be done. At the moment only one person knows it and it taking the toll of me these last few weeks cause they finally start moving their butts and I have to do design literally 24/7 each day and everyday the same thing the deadline is the next day. Not that I can't do it but mainly fucking up the design process less time to brainstorm about special ideas, it's just doing it and getting it done on time and use standard simple ideas so it still look ok.

People need to up their game, cause this is a total shit of a workflow, even the workflow at my shit school was better and projects that need to be done in 7 weeks I always finish them in the first but atlases know be done way ahead of the deadline but can't have deadline is the next day or deadline is in 2weeks but I have a and a second project next to it each day that need to be done the next day so basically the days I can work on the bigger one is always zero cause need to finish these small shit every day. Damn it working with these guys and the pay is like shit but work pressure is high fucking welcome to hk.

Tried some hk style egg waffle

Actually not sure if they are called that but its is mostly like a waffle and kinda made the same way. Have to say is much more crunchy than I had expected than being nice and soft. Mainly is a crunchy outer and a soft inner it is not that bad but actually does not have much flavor to it I though it be much sweeter too. But have to say would really go for one again even though they show allot of celebs visited their shop but really care more if it taste good or not.

Today shot a dance performance rehearsal, with animations and graphics projected onto the dancers. So had a chance to take a picture of my own silhouette. Be converting them to pre render files for Sony Vegas tonight and edit the vid once I got the song from the client but already got a good intro sequence from how the vid should start in my head. Just need the music so it would follow the beat.

Have to say taking a picture of my own silhoutte is not that pretty cause if you hold your arms up it looks like you are missing them, but mostly 2nd picture is better just not showing my arms at all did the trick, but would had like to take a full body one though. But then had to try jumping in the light and try to take a pic with my iPad.

With nowadays apps and iPad you can literally take a picture with a celeb and directly have it signed by them too, what you need is the autodesk sketchbook app and which can load pictures and photos and you can then draw over it or get an the picture signed. Fairly easy and make the picture have more worth to it!

Have to say I haven't done much sketching with my iPad while I got it for a quite long time only kinda did few concept sketches with it which are cool, but have to say compare to paper you have less control on the iPad but one great thing is you got the undo button plus you save allot of materials. Also too bad the resolution and size is limited so you cannot expect anything you have drawn to be printed on a big canvas without getting pixelated.

This morning finished a test packaging template for Dai Fu Lou need to go to the printer later to print it out so i can test the best option, but need to find time to cut and paste it though. Now of to sheung wan to pick up stuff mostly money and to print the template. This is an actual generator that make barcode for product that are in the shops however you do need to purchase the barcode codes first that you will need to input into this generator. It will generate a png which have no anti aliasing so you can import it into illustrator to make it into a vector version however with illustrator you do need to type the numbers new under it as the numbers will look odd. Standing outside at the waterfront in tsing yi and doing work instead of relaxing and just having a stroll , cause I just had to find a free Internet spot and had to check my mail and was already bombed with the next thing I need to do! So literally this waterfront park was my office for a bit and had to do so much like search documents from emails and generate some barcodes which when I get back in the office need to put them on few packagings.

Well lately heard allot of this product is impossible like this black board in the picture below, I asked someone it be cool to have something that is opposite of a white board. He said it is impossible cause you can not make white markers. But from my knowledge is you can make it easily just with the right chemical compound so it does not stick on to the board forever. Mostly need two compound that stays on each other but does not blend or get absorbed but also does not repel to have this. But impossible is nothing to be honest you can make or design allot of things but need the right knowledge and also a logic mindset to go around some hard to do stuff.

Well I have to say its not true but mainly for the work I do it kinda sometimes seems to be impossible not to work with it, tons of times you need to Download or sent files to clients or even just for research. I somehow managed to live without actually owning internet of my own, which I mean a own modem or router. Mainly trying to find free Internet so I could work my way around it. However still several annoying factors, mostly my iPad have so little things I can do with it can't even load just simple files on it and send those over the email on my iPad. Al I can do is send files with my laptop and every time it's a race against time, cause my laptop battery life is short very short like just 30min back in the days it was few hours but in time it gone worse. But have to say I either just need Internet of my own of just get a new laptop or mac book pro!

Loosing weight and getting healthy!

So starting now trying to get my weight close to 68kg which is a healthy weight for me so now here is a pic already of the progress you might notice I look much more different from the old vids of myself, back then before I came to hk I weighted close to 88kg which was very much overweighted and fat. But now I am 75,2 which mostly getting to 80kg costed 5 months and literally last month the fat burning gone quick and went in one month from 80kg to 75kg now the goal of 68 is pretty close!

Watched Captain America in Whampoa and it was one of the better movies I have seem this year, there were few odd editing cuts or they simply did not have the shots. But story wise it was a good movie showing allot of information and also kinda interesting cast. Only bad was the lights went on at the ending credits when at the end there is still extra footage of the next marvel movie.

Lipton Ice Tea Zero/ Review

I always just fall for it when they give it away free on a hot summer day. Damn and it taste like crap, actually taste like they sponged some sweaty person , squeezed it in a cann and added some bubbles. Lipton should just quit making this or the guy who is keeping this in the line is get fired. Mostly the taste is so freaking horrible, I like the Lipton Ice tea without the bubbles or the Lipton green tea. But added bubbles give it a horrible taste. But how dare they keep making this disgusting drink.

Design wise too much info, nowadays everybody knows what Zero means and that just mean no sugar. The dark blue plus yellow is an interesting colorscheme. But totally does not look refreshing, plus the dark blue expect some blueberry or cherry flavour than ice tea.

Was in Belgium today so checked out there stored to find some new drink actually there was allot but did not buy them all cause I don't have time to taste and test them all. Had to also stay till 7pm so needed some energy to do that.

The design is sure pretty sporty but the logo is kinda odd Arabianish design, its bit too crowded for my taste got too much info their want to show while its not that really needed.

The taste is a kind of passion fruit flavour but not that taste actually. And not really recommended nor would but one to drink at all. Tasted some thing before but not sure which brand it was though. Think the best energy drink out there is Monster Energy or Faster cause of their taste.

BATTLESHIP POTEMKIN 1925

I found this interesting old movie called Battleship Potemkin, eventhough its an old silent movie, but I have to say not least what you would normally expect. Its not some silly comedic movie with a simple piano song behind it. In this movie you can see how the smart choice of the music sets the mood of this film. However the cinematography is also quite interesting and the editing of it too. There are actually some quite interesting angles and shots in there. Also I have to say there are allot of twist in the story which you don't expect which is quite good.

Monster Energy Shot / Review

Monster energy shots, its quite new while there were some Red Bull shots sold in Holland but never really catched on cause it just a tiny bottle and not really much to drink if you are thirsty.

First thing is really small a 90ml bottle while the can counter part which is 500ml which is allot to drink. However the energy shots are probably more aimed at athletes which drink this to get an energy boost. While not really much for consumer use unless your hobby is doing marathon runs and any extreme sports.

However from seeing how the Red Bull shots are sold now, its a bit strange cause they are selling at fast food shops train stations. Hardly much aiming at athletes. While mostly people be rather buying coffee or the big can or just bottles of water or cola at the shops of the train station. Also nice container to keep or re-use. Especially for when you are jogging and don't want to carry a huge bottle nor a camel bag, this small bottle fits nice in your hands to run around with it.

Design
From Monster Energy you can basically expect awesome use of their logo and keeping the rest as simple as possible. The bottle shape is pretty simplistic and good size to hold, however it basically very much small size to fit in most waist bags. Also their are certain waist bags for small water containers which this should fit in too.

Flavour
Have to say its not really much of a refreshing drink, mostly same as most energy shots mostly got a high glucose taste which is mainly the energy. It got a very slight taste of the Monster energy but not really strong. If I have to compare the taste to anything else, I would say its like drinking some cough syrup. I have to say its not a refreshing drink, mostly you need to combine it with water to rinse out the glucose taste from your mouth like most energy shots. Mainly got experience drinking energy shots and stuff from my cycling days. Basically if you are doing some intensive training I would use it when my energy feels low to boost it up. But not drink it as some soda pop, also recommended not to drink more than just one a day, cause its a high concentration of energy.

7up? Lemon, lime & bubbles?

Ok, I am truly confused by this can especially it is saying 7up but I know how the latest 7up should look like, but this says it is from Seven-Up International. This can of 7up is actually imported from Germany where is is produced and does have the legit Ball packaging logo. However the graphic design has nothing in common with the standard 7up graphics nor the logo. Now I went and checked online for the website and its seems that Europe will have a different Seven Up look than compared wit America. If you checked 7up.com you will find they sporty American design, but checking 7up.nl or 7up.de you will find the European version. I have to say they styling on the website looks cool, but have to say the graphics on this can looks just crazy cheap, but probably cause this can is a German design and the Dutch will have a much different look while still have almost equal new 7up Logo. Also the UK has a total different logo than the American or European design.

Design
I have to say probably cause it is German import and I know their style is less graphic more typo, so the can kinda fits their taste. Hope the Dutch version would look better though, especially slightly altered logo with photo's of the lemon and lime added. But have to say the counter part from America still looks much better though. This just feels and looks very cheap compared to the older styling. Mostly the logo looks just too simplistic.

Taste
Not really much of a taste change maybe a very very slight hint of lime in there but not really noticeable unless you are really searching for it.

New Aloe Vera King / Review

Actually I reviewed this drink and packaging a few years back, back then it had a particular standard bottle as other Aloe Vera beverages. However today I went a shop where mostly allot of new stuff are sold before they hit the bigger superstores. The restyling is pretty good actually and looks less cheap. However have to say its still not much of a beverage look, I can still put it between the gardener section and sell it as kind of special fertilizer for Aloe vera plants. However I have to say it does stand out now with a better bottle design and not using the standard bottle as the other brands. Have to say its now probably one of the better designs between the other Aloe vera drinks.

Design
As I can see they designer did his best to keep allot the things in the original design while making it look much better and less cheap. However the graphics shows again too much of the plant and not showing that is it a beverage, especially just one small thing show its a drink cause it says Aloe Drink. Just some splashes of water would probably do it. Or they should just not include the plant but just show splashes with the bits of aloe vera which on the Nestea Aloe vera lemon tea, where it looks more like a real beverage and nothing close to any gardener stuff.

Flavour
Taste wise it seem to have change a little especially its less sweet and that made it somehow more refreshing just a little Aloe Vera taste which is not very overwhelming, but this way its very refreshing to drink it. Cause the other ones are quite sweet or got overwhelming aloe vera taste and taste much better as a mix, but this one is pretty good to drink on its own.

Shutterspeeds for HDSLR filming

1/30 static shots without too much movements otherwise images gets very blurry and looks out of focus. But its actually motion blur while the subject is actually in focus.

1/50 - 1/100 handheld shooting with more sharper images without getting jumpy effect. The faster the shutter the less of motion blur there is.

Everything higher than 1/100 you will get the jumpy action effect, cause there is totally no motion blur in the shots and cause there is no blur that make the movement blend over, it will show a jumpy effect.

When everything is still over exposed you can change your aperture however you can also add an ND filter which lower the amount of light without losing the dof.

However they are used allot or bought allot by amateurs does not mean they are bad lenses but have a bigger limit than other lenses and mostly the zooms are not really useful at night or low light conditions. However during the daytime they are all wonderful lenses, and mostly you need to learn that certain locations you can use certain lenses and not the other. However if you have a paid job for photography you can better just rent better lenses instead of trying to buy these cheap ones cause of their limits.

This app is mostly frustration for people riding the bus in Hong Kong mostly no real indications of where you are, and when riding the light / mini bus you need to indicate to the bus driver yourself where you wan to get off. And often on long rides you might fall asleep and miss your stop. With this concept app you would be warned when you are close to your destination so you are warned when to get off on time.

Free lensing / Lens wacking guide

So the technique uses a lens that is not attached to the camera, so you can special effects like getting light leaks through the open gaps, but also getting a tilt shift effect and extra also getting making any lens into a macro, but the bad side of this technique is that your sensor area is open so dust and dirt could get on to your sensor. However the effect is amazing and gives the shot just the extra.

However for what would you use this effect, mostly for getting effect kind of old film looks where all the bad is good. But also for allot of music video mostly showing a very peaceful shot, however also depending what kinds of colour filter you use might also have certain effects for different moods. Mostly adding colour filters makes it less dull than having white like leaks but mostly depends on what kinds of style you are going for and what mood you want to have.

Here is a setup how to directly wire two lavaliers into your camera it doesn't even matter if you lavalier micrphones are either mono or stereo. Just make sure you got enough wire for you to move your camera around or that is enough wires so people can sit comfortably without jerking the mics or cables. But also you can use the same setup for wireless lavaliers.

Just few tips like buy atleast 3 batteries which should be enought to film a whole event or even film set for a whole day. Havent had to change more than 3 times on a film set yet even while filming a whole day. Also I have used 3rd party batteries on different models and have to say I never had any problems with them and they work very well. And now found that you can get them extreme cheap from Hong Kong on ebay and are basically the same as 3rd parties that you can buy in stores but at Ebay it is way cheaper but you have to wait longer for them but its worth the wait and save your self allot of money.

Vivitar 28mm f2 review

Its a quite nice lens to use on a crop frame cause you can stand much close than using a 50mm only its not as fast as most 50mm but its is one of the faster 28mm lenses. Only con of the lens is that you have to turn the focus ring 270 degrees to go from one end to the other. However I have to say I love the flare of this lens and in combination with Kodachrome picture style it give a look of filming with an old camera which is actually quite nice look or effect.

LED 48 Ring light comparison

I finally got another version and I have to say its like 10 times better while it is just few dollars more. The battery is much better in place and the light is nice white instead of being slightly blueish. Watch the vid of the comparison below.

From the test the conclusion its just better to spend a little bit more and get a much better light. I have to say it does take like 3 weeks to be send from Hong Kong to Europe but its quite worth the wait and it is not an expensive light and it does the job really well.

Sensible Digital Cinema: The Arri Alexa

A very funny video showing the Arri Alex however I have not used it or even seen the real thing, I can say it is quite easy to go through the settings. If you view the vid you can see the simple menu, plus also you can visit the Arri Alexa website and play with the menu in a online simulator. Also great that there are now more companies competing in the 4K competitions and also making them more manageable sizes and weight cause the RED ONE was one giant heavy camera which only useful on a tripod, dolly or crane. You had to be a super strong to try to hand held one and need to use a special harness to be able too. You can view a behind the scenes vid showing how the Alexa is behind used and handheld which shows how they use it and able to hand held it or use it on a steadicam.

Canon EOS 550D native ISO

The native ISO with the no or less noise are 160, 320, 640, 800, 1250, 1600, 2500. From 160 to 800 there is almost no noise at all and the 1250,1600, 2500 have an equal amount of noise. To able to enable these iso settings you need to install magic lantern on your camera.

View the test in the vid below which you can view the noise of different ISO, recommended to view it in HD will Full screen to able to see the tiny or large amount of noise.

This is the actual silver one you can buy from Ebay that is send from Hong Kong or China. The version in the video is the 4 battery version however I do advice to check which version you are buying and rather go for the 3 battery version. It is a strong and bright light and very great for using it as a fill light during the day or nice soft ring light effect at night. I will also make some more vids in the future showing how to use the light. If you want to buy it I recommend to click the link below to buy it at Amazon which is a quite good build but if you want to pay even less than 10 US dollar you could try searching on Ebay for 48 LED UFO light.

How attach anything to a tripod

It just with a tiny adapter, however this tip is mostly for Europe where you can't get the nuts and bolt in the inch system cause in Europe we use the metric system. With this small adapter glued to all kinds of things like certain lights make it possible to put anything on tripods to be extra help on a set without having to need people to hold it but just stand on a tripod.

How to use ND filter for DSLR filming

The old way was to have allot of ND filters and had to change it each time the conditions changes. But that was cause you didnt want to change the ISO of the film each time, which meant you had to change the whole film roll. But with the new DSLR you can take advantage of the ISO and use an actual slightly too dark ND filter and add ISO to brighten it, while keeping a wide aperture with a slow shutter speeds. What it also does most wide aperture lenses actually have problems when used wide open they give a soft glow at over exposed areas. But having the lighting slightly under exposed makes the soft glow go away and amping the iso help you getting the light back and able to film wide open while it is sunny plus removing some problems of the lens.

9:16 film test

This is something I wanted to try for a while cause 9:16 is filming in portrait which for certain shots looks much better than landscape. However in filming its very different however cause of the iPad or tablets you could easily watch a movie sideways. But its kinda has it own charm plus having a digital magazine with few moving images this way is quite interesting. Also in portrait it also nice to show people in portrait cause landscape you only get to see so little or you have a full body shot but have allot of open space for the background. Too bad Youtube isn't really good in handling or showing 9:16 but luckly Vimeo does a good job with it.

Follow focus with Magic Lantern

The new functions is actual an digital follow focus so now dont need to turn the focus ring but just while holding something in front of the LCD sensor you can press up to focus in for in the distance or press down to focus to something close up. You can change the focus speed at the rack focus speed setting inside the Magic Lantern menu.

Here is a video showing the sound menu of the Magic Lantern trying to explain how it works cause the manual does not explain allot and there are allot of people saying you should use a certain setting which is not true and makes people to do the same mistake.

How to wire double mono mics to your camera

Not sure why, but direct upload to youtube seem to make the vids darker. Now back to topic I actually already showed this in my AGC Hack vid but now a separate video for it you can find this tip easier without having to watch the agc hack also explaining and showing it in use. The wires I used for this are: 3.5mm Male Jack to RCA Female and 2x 3.5mm Female Jack to RCA Male Jacks. You can use this to wire up 2 mono mics so one is standard into the left channel and the other would change from left to the right channel. This give option during editing to play around with the sound or actually add or remove stuff.

Bokeh effects with Cokin filter holder

A short video showing what I used to make the bokeh effects which I did with my new years video showing happy 2011 in fireworks. I actually used the P194 or the P375 set which has a filter or gelatine holder for the Cokin P filter holder. Then I cut out a shape that is within 2cm out of a black card board and place it in the gelatine holder and now have a nice filter for bokeh effects. You can also put a piece of clear plastic and use a marker to draw or write something inside the bokeh.

Here is a certain setup I use allot for filming events and also shooting movies, mainly it helps run and gunning allot faster than using a tripod and its much more stable than using a monopod. Also this kind of monopod can be easily made into a simple steadicam by just adding ankle weight on the bottom to make it less top heavy.

Last Saturday 29 Jan 2011 was the big Art For Art pilot event where allot of people had worked for to make it happen, too bad the school which would had cooperated with was way too lazy not knowing that real life management is tough and need to work day and night calling people and organizing stuff. Also during this event was a short movie I wrote/filmed/edited for this event. The image above is the major doing the opening speech of the event, too bad the lighting was bit off, the table should had been one meter back cause his face is really oddly lighted with a big shadow in the middle.

The person who have made this all possible was Marlies van Amerongen also is the producer of the short movie, she is in the picture above on the right. The main event of the night was actually the auction which didn't went all that well but at least there were some sells also my artwork was auctioned.

And of course the premier of the short movie Mastermind. It was bit of an oddball production, not everything went that well and smooth but mainly learned on who you can count on and personally myself on the production side of trying to get hands on borrowed equipments and casting in Holland. So watch the whole movie here below, it was filmed just in 2 days and mainly the sound production side used the most time. For the rest did not use any special movie coloring mostly just white balancing out some shots that were shot without having the white balance correct and mainly color filters on the lights for certain color effects.

However I am not quite happy with the full results also kinda mad about myself by not writing in my usual style. But have to say, could use this as a pilot and write a much better script, especially during editing I thought missing allot of scenes that could have been added and try to find someone to finance it to be a better financed short or a feature film.

This short movie won the best movie prize and I help out doing the DOP filmed with Canon EOS 550D with 16mm f2.8 and 28mm f2 lens and also Kodak Playsport for the POV and home video shots. Watch the Movie below.

Blind Vertrouwen gaat over liefde en verraad. Michael (Jasper van der Heijden) wordt niet erkend als de vader van zijn kind, het geeft hem het gevoel dat hij machteloos is en in de steek wordt gelaten. Zijn enige uitweg lijkt om aan alles maar een einde te maken. Jos (Rob Keijsers) en Peter (Marvin Bek) proberen hem op het laatste moment nog over te halen het niet te doen, maar zijn ze op tijd of heeft Michael zijn beslissing al genomen?
